Social learning theory combines cognitive learning theory which posits that learning is influenced by psychological factors and behavioral learning theory which assumes that learning is based . A basic concepts observational learning the social learning theory says that people can learn by watching other people perform the behavior observational learning explains the nature of children to learn behaviors by watching the behavior of the people around them and eventually imitating them. Social learning theory is not a full explanation for all behavior this is particularly the case when there is no apparent role model in the persons life to imitate for a given behavior the discovery of mirror neurons has lent biological support to the theory of social learning. Social learning theory is a theory of learning and social behavior which proposes that new behaviors can be acquired by observing and imitating others it states that learning is a cognitive process that takes place in a social context and can occur purely through observation or direct instruction even in the absence of motor reproduction or direct reinforcement. Social learning theory theorized by albert bandura posits that people learn from one another via observation imitation and modeling the theory has often been called a bridge between behaviorist and cognitive learning theories because it encompasses attention memory and motivation
